Brixton Green are awarded £231k from Power to Change (funded by the Big Lottery)

After a rigorous evaluation, Power to Change have awarded Brixton Green £231k to establish the Somerleyton Trust! Started in 2015, Power to Change is an independent charitable trust endowed with £150 million from the Big Lottery Fund to grow community business in England.

The Somerleyton Road project is a truly community-led project. This funding is not just a chance to formalise that by establishing the new Community Trust, but is a vote of confidence in this approach to providing new homes and opportunities by the community for the community in the heart of Brixton.

We would like to say a very, very big thank you to the Power to Change and the Brixton Green trustees who worked hard work to make this happen.

Sophie Macken, Programmes Manager at the independent trust Power to Change, said:
‘We are very proud to be funding Brixton Green at this crucial moment in its development. It takes a lot of work for community businesses to make their ideas into a reality, and this is another exciting step forward.  Brixton Green is precisely the sort of ambitious project, shaped and built by the local community, which will help the area thrive even with more tough times ahead.’

Over the next nine years, Power to Change will provide funding and support to help build many more sustainable community businesses that have positive economic, social and environmental impact in local places across England.

Job opportunity: With this funding we will be hiring a Transition Director to establish the Somerleyton Trust and client the build on behalf of the community. The full job description will be available soon, but if you are interested in an informal chat please get in touch with us.
